The Asia-Pacific Regional International Drug Enforcement Conference is an international event organized by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration. This year’s conference is being held to block the distribution of narcotics that is spreading through online-based remote transactions and to effectively respond to synthetic drug crimes that pose a threat to the Asia-Pacific region.

The Korean National Police Agency has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration to cooperate in responding to the illegal distribution of narcotics and the laundering of criminal proceeds derived from such activities. The two agencies have agreed to strengthen practical cooperation, including joint international investigations and information sharing. Through closer collaboration with the DEA, joint investigations into international drug crime organizations are expected to become more active.

John Scott, head of the DEA Asia-Pacific office, stated, "International criminal organizations are exploiting Korea’s logistics infrastructure, which serves as a hub, to smuggle and distribute drugs worldwide. Due to stricter border inspections in the United States, Mexican organizations that have suffered losses are now targeting the Asia-Pacific region."

An official from the Korean National Police Agency commented, "Korea recognizes the drug problem as a social crisis and is implementing countermeasures at a pan-governmental level. International cooperation based on close collaboration among countries is more important than ever to eradicate drug crimes."
