A Total of 150 Million Won Allocated from District Funds
Distribution Expanded by 50% Compared to Last Year
On April 22, Gangnam District in Seoul (District Mayor Cho Sungmyung) announced that it will provide a total of 150 million won in subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles and electric two-wheelers in order to expand the adoption of eco-friendly transportation and reduce fine dust pollution.
The subsidy is available to individuals, business owners, and corporations with an address in Gangnam District. A fixed subsidy of 1 million won per vehicle will be provided for commercial electric vehicles. Private, rental, and leased vehicles are excluded from the electric vehicle subsidy program. For electric two-wheelers, the subsidy amount varies by vehicle type, and an additional 100,000 won will be provided for electric two-wheelers used for delivery purposes.
This subsidy program supplements the national and municipal subsidies provided by the Ministry of Environment and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, with Gangnam District allocating additional district funds. Last year, the district provided approximately 100 million won in subsidies for electric two-wheelers for the first time, which received a strong response. This year, the budget has been increased by 50%, and the program has been expanded to include commercial electric vehicles, reflecting a broader range of demand.
The program will support up to 170 vehicles, with 30 of these prioritized for people with disabilities, low-income individuals, national merit recipients, small business owners, households with multiple children, or those who have scrapped internal combustion engine vehicles. The subsidy can also be retroactively applied to vehicles newly registered after January 1 of this year.
Eligible vehicles must be selected for subsidy support by the Ministry of Environment and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the list of eligible vehicle types can be found on the Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Website.
Applications have been accepted since April 14 and will continue until the end of the year, but the program may close early if the budget is exhausted. Applications can be submitted in person at the district office’s Environmental Division or by mail. For more details, refer to the district office website (Administration·Information > Announcements·Legislative Notices > Public Notices) or contact the Green Energy Team of the Environmental Division at 02-3423-6194.
District Mayor Cho Sungmyung stated, "We have strengthened our support so that residents can more easily purchase eco-friendly vehicles," and added, "We will continue to provide practical support for the expansion of electric vehicles to realize a sustainable green city in Gangnam."
