Nowon District Resumes Operation of 'Danghyeoncheon Music Fountain'

Nowon District (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will resume operation of the Danghyeoncheon Music Fountain, which had been on winter break, starting May 1.

The Danghyeoncheon Music Fountain, located between Bulamgyo Bridge and Saessakgyo Bridge in front of the Nowon Mathematics Culture Center, is a cultural rest area in Nowon District where visitors can enjoy music harmonized with the night view while strolling along the riverside trail. The water jets shoot up to a maximum height of 25 meters, impressing onlookers.

Last year, for the first time in the country, bridge fountains were installed on both Bulamgyo Bridge and Saessakgyo Bridge, and facilities were upgraded with features such as lasers and a water screen. The combination of lighting and water streams creates waves of vibrant lights and colors, providing even more diverse attractions for residents who come out for evening walks to escape the heat.

The district completed inspections and maintenance of all facilities throughout April in preparation for the resumption of operations next month, and will officially reopen the fountain on May 1.

To prevent monotony from repetitive performances and to ensure everyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy the experience, a total of 18 new songs have been selected this year in collaboration with music experts. The lineup includes children’s songs such as "Jewel Tinyping Song" and "Three Bears," as well as a wide range of genres including "APT," "Octopus's Dream," and "I Am a Butterfly," with different selections featured on different days of the week.

The Danghyeoncheon Music Fountain operates once daily for 20 minutes from Wednesday to Sunday, starting at sunset. From May to August, the show begins at 8:30 p.m.; in September, at 8:00 p.m.; and in October, at 7:00 p.m. Operations are suspended every Monday and Tuesday for maintenance.

The district also emphasized its commitment to safety during fountain operations. Two safety personnel will be stationed at all times during operating hours to eliminate potential hazards in advance and respond to emergencies. In addition, safety messages and audio guidance will be provided during each performance using speakers and electronic displays.

Meanwhile, as demand for waterfront spaces among residents has increased, the district is creating a variety of water-friendly spaces. In January, the Nowon Dumulmeori Cafe opened along the Jungnangcheon Stream, offering views, rest areas, and light refreshments. The Danghyeoncheon Ground Fountain, which serves as a stage for major cultural performances and festivals such as the Cherry Blossom Music Concert and Moonlight Walk, continues to be actively used. The area near Uicheon Stream, with its natural scenery including Choansan Mountain and Bukhansan Mountain, is also developing into an attractive waterfront hub for leisure and cultural activities.

The Gyeongchun Railway Bridge Fountain, currently being constructed at the center of the Gyeongchun Railway Bridge connecting Wolgye-dong and Hagye-dong, is nearing completion with the goal of opening in July. This fountain will feature a "color laser mapping show" that distinguishes it from existing bridge fountains, offering clearer and more vibrant laser displays. Visitors will be able to enjoy music performances and a variety of scenic views as they cross the bridge.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, stated, "Flowing water and music are highly effective in relieving everyday stress," adding, "I hope that many visitors to the Danghyeoncheon Music Fountain will be able to escape the noise of daily life and enjoy a relaxing time accompanied by the melody of water."
