Mungyeong City Operates Fruit Tree Pollen Bank at Agricultural Technology Center

Supporting Stable Fruit Set and High-Quality Fruit Production
Mungyeong Agricultural Technology Center Introduces 'Bujae' and N-b Systems for Scientific Pollination Management

The Mungyeong Agricultural Technology Center in North Gyeongsang Province announced that it operates a fruit tree pollen bank to support stable fruit set and high-quality fruit production for orchard farmers. To this end, the center has introduced the 'Bujae' system alongside the N-b system.

The fruit tree pollen bank helps ensure stable fruit set through artificial pollination in situations where the natural pollination rate drops due to issues such as low temperatures and abnormal weather during the flowering period, a decrease in pollinating insects, and a shortage of pollinizers in major fruit crops like apples in Mungyeong.

In particular, the N-b system is a system designed to scientifically manage the quality of pollen and support farmers in utilizing artificial pollination more efficiently.

Additionally, the newly introduced 'Bujae' system enhances the accuracy of pollen quality and storage management, helping farmers receive optimal pollen when needed. This is expected to reduce management costs for farmers and strengthen the competitiveness of the Mungyeong fruit industry.

Orchard farmers can collect flowers and bring them to the fruit tree pollen bank, where impurities are removed using a pollen extractor and the pollen is sorted before being supplied. This process provides effective support to farmers wishing to perform artificial pollination and helps them produce high-quality fruit.

Kim Mija, director of the Mungyeong Agricultural Technology Center, emphasized, "The production of premium Mungyeong apples begins with pollination management," and added, "Scientific fruit set management is necessary in response to the recent frequent weather changes."

She continued, "The introduction of the N-b system and Bujae will greatly contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the Mungyeong fruit industry, and we will continue to make improvements and refinements."
