He proved to be resilient under pressure. This is the story of Justin Thomas (USA). On April 20 (local time), Thomas claimed victory in a playoff at the prestigious PGA Tour event, the RBC Heritage (total prize money: $20 million), held at Harbour Town Golf Links (par 71, 7,213 yards) on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA. After tying with Andrew Novak (USA) at 17-under-par 267, Thomas secured the win with a birdie on the first playoff hole, the 18th (par 4). This marks his 16th career victory and his first win in three years since the PGA Championship, a major tournament, in May 2022. He earned $3.6 million (approximately 5.1 billion KRW) in prize money.

Thomas has now ended his long championship drought and has set the stage to reestablish himself as one of the world’s top golfers. Immediately after his victory, Thomas embraced his wife and five-month-old daughter, overcome with emotion, saying, "I can't express how much I've been longing for a win." Once a frequent champion, Thomas reflected, "Winning is really difficult," adding, "I've worked hard, been patient, and tried to stay positive throughout."

Thomas’s scrambling ability was outstanding in this tournament. His skill in saving par or better when missing the green was a key driver of his victory. He succeeded in all 16 attempts, ranking first in this category. The Titleist Vokey Design SM10 wedge played a crucial supporting role. By carrying four wedges (46, 52, 56, and 60 degrees) in his caddie bag, he reached the top at this signature event.
