Practical Support for Resuming Spring Farming
Laying the Foundation for Sustainable Agricultural Recovery
Uiseong County in Gyeongbuk has provided "customized agricultural supply cards" to farms affected by the recent wildfire, offering significant support to help impacted farmers resume their spring farming activities.
On April 21, Uiseong County announced that it had completed assistance for local farms struggling due to wildfire damage, enabling them to stably secure essential supplies such as fertilizer and pesticides and smoothly restart their agricultural operations through the "customized agricultural supply support program."
The "customized agricultural supply card" is a system in which each farm receives a card loaded with a set amount of points for purchasing agricultural supplies, tailored to the size of their operations and the characteristics of their crops.
Farmers can freely purchase supplies at designated partner stores, allowing them to respond flexibly to seasonal farming needs.
In particular, Uiseong County responded swiftly by distributing the agricultural supply cards early in April, immediately following the wildfire, to address urgent demand.
As demand for pest control chemicals, soil restoration fertilizers, and rain shelter materials surged due to wildfire damage, the distribution of the cards played a critical role in enabling farms to secure necessary supplies in a timely manner.
An official from Uiseong County explained, "While it takes some time to restore agricultural machinery, missing the right timing for agricultural supplies can ruin an entire year’s harvest. Rapid support in the form of cards proved to be highly effective in minimizing damage."
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, stated, "The fact that farmers were able to continue their agricultural activities despite this unexpected disaster is the result of the county’s creative and proactive policies. We will actively pursue customized policies that go beyond simple recovery and consider the sustainable restoration of the agricultural ecosystem."
Meanwhile, in addition to the agricultural supply cards, the county is also implementing a variety of recovery measures such as agricultural machinery support, assistance with farm labor, and free agricultural machinery rentals to help with wildfire recovery. The county plans to analyze the usage and effectiveness of the agricultural supply cards and reflect the findings in future policy improvements.
