Seven Deaths Since 2017

Another Fatal Fall at Jesaksan Suspension Bridge in Nam-gu, Gwangju

There have been a series of fall accidents at the Jesaksan Suspension Bridge, a hiking trail in Nam-gu, Gwangju.

According to the Gwangju Nambu Police Station on April 21, at around 5:10 a.m. that day, a 33-year-old individual, identified as A, fell from the Jesaksan Suspension Bridge in Nam-gu to the road 37 meters below. Firefighters and police responded to the report and transported A, who was in cardiac arrest, to the hospital, but A was pronounced dead.

It was found that A, who visited the suspension bridge alone, climbed over a 2-meter-high railing before falling. Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident, interviewing witnesses and others.

The suspension bridge, which connects the ridges of Mount Jesak and was built in 1999, has seen a continuous series of safety incidents. Since 2017, a total of seven citizens have died after falling from this location.

Last year, a man caused a commotion by sitting on the railing and threatening to jump, and in the early morning hours of February this year, a man in his 40s, identified as B, climbed over the safety facility installed at the same location and died after falling.
