Seunghwa Lee, Governor of Sancheong County, Joins "Relay Campaign to Raise Awareness of Population Issues"

Multifaceted Efforts by the County to Attract New Residents and Prevent Population Outflow

Seunghwa Lee, Governor of Sancheong County in South Gyeongsang Province, announced on the 21st that he has joined the "Relay Campaign to Raise Awareness of Population Issues."

This campaign, organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Health and Welfare, was launched to build consensus on responding to the crisis of local extinction and overcoming population decline.

Sancheong County is currently making multifaceted efforts to attract new residents and prevent population outflow. Specifically, for the youth and school-age population, the county is implementing policies such as support for youth housing loan interest, operation of the Sancheong Ujeong Dormitory, and provision of Sancheong County local scholarships.

In particular, to reduce the practical burden of child-rearing, the county is providing childbirth incentives, health insurance premium support for second and subsequent children, and maternal and newborn health management support.

Governor Lee stated, "Population issues are a critical challenge directly linked to the sustainability of our society," and added, "I hope this campaign will serve as an opportunity to further increase public interest among county residents."

He further emphasized, "We will continue to implement effective policies so that children can be happy, young people can nurture hope, and seniors can find fulfillment in Sancheong."

Meanwhile, the relay campaign to raise awareness of population issues, which began in October last year, is being conducted in a relay format by local governments, public institutions, and companies nationwide.

Governor Lee participated in the campaign after being nominated by Yooncheol Kim, Governor of Hapcheon County, and in turn nominated Yongrae Jeong, Mayor of Yuseong District in Daejeon (a sister city), and Chungnam Jang, Governor of Namhae County, as the next participants.
