Democratic Party Yeongnam Region Voting
Lee Jaemyung: "Only Halfway... I Will Do My Best in the Remaining Primaries"
Lee Jaemyung, a presidential primary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on his landslide victory with 90.81% of the votes in the Yeongnam region party member and delegate election held at the Ulsan Exhibition and Convention Center (UECO) on the 20th, saying, "I believe this means party members have high expectations of me," and added, "I also feel a great sense of responsibility."
Lee made these remarks to reporters after the results were announced, addressing his vote share of over 90%.
Regarding his prospects of being nominated as the party's presidential candidate, Lee said, "Half of our party members have now expressed their intentions," and continued, "There is still another half remaining, and even more beyond that. The opinions of the public who support or have expectations for the Democratic Party also remain." His comments reflect the fact that, in addition to the party member vote, a general public poll to be announced on the 27th will account for 50% in determining the final Democratic Party candidate.
He also emphasized, "It is still too early to draw conclusions about the outcome," and added, "I will do my utmost in this primary."
Kim Kyungsoo, who came in second place in the Yeongnam region vote with 5.93%, said, "The support I received represents the sweat and tears of those who have walked a difficult path as Democratic Party members in Yeongnam. I will use those votes as a foundation to achieve better results in the remaining primaries," and added, "This primary is just beginning."
Kim stated, "I consider the remaining week to be the real primary period and will do my best to prepare for the primaries in Honam and the Seoul metropolitan area," adding, "My goal for this primary is for everyone to win, and I will do what I can in the remaining time."
Kim Dongyeon said, "I gladly accept the results given by the party members and will steadfastly do my best in the remaining primaries." Kim maintained his second-place position in cumulative votes (5.27%), after finishing second (7.54%) in the previous day's primary in Chungcheong, the first stop of the tour, and taking third place (3.26%) in the Yeongnam primary on this day.
Kim added, "I will work to win the hearts of party members in the upcoming Honam and Seoul metropolitan primaries, and will also strive for good results in the general opinion poll to ensure victory."
