Mayor Park Kangsu of Mapo District Attends 3rd "See the Person" Festival to Promote Disability Awareness

Park Kangsu, the mayor of Mapo District, attended the 3rd “See the Person” festival held at the Mapo District Sports Center on the afternoon of April 19.

Now in its third year, the “See the Person” festival is Mapo District’s signature welfare event, carrying the message “See the person, not the disability.” It is a festival where people with and without disabilities can enjoy themselves together without discrimination or prejudice.

Prior to the main event, a side event titled “Gyeongui Line Forest Trail Trip for Everyone” was held at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Red Road Power Plant. Participants walked the forest trail from the Red Road Power Plant to the Sogang University Station Square, taking part in various programs such as disability experience activities, a disability awareness improvement challenge, and an exhibition of artworks by people with disabilities.

The “See the Person” commemorative event took place from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Mapo District Sports Center. Hosted by broadcaster Lee Jaeyong, the event featured a screening of a human rights film about people with disabilities, a disability awareness quiz show, commemorative speeches, awards for distinguished contributors, and a celebratory performance.

In addition, the festival grounds featured the “Bom ZONE” booth, where attendees could participate in various activities such as experiencing assistive devices to enhance understanding of disabilities, viewing and purchasing products made by people with disabilities, and sign language education.

In his commemorative speech, Park Kangsu stated, “We are doing our utmost to create a world where disability is not something special and where people do not have to hide or feel ashamed because of their disabilities. Mapo District will continue to make every effort to build a society where disability is not a barrier.”
