China Urges U.S. to Halt Port Entry Fees on Chinese Vessels, Vows Necessary Measures

"It Will Harm Both Other Countries and the United States"

China has strongly protested the United States' decision to impose port entry fees on Chinese vessels entering U.S. ports.

Lin Zhen, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a regular briefing on the 18th that the U.S. decision "will harm not only other countries but also the United States itself."

Previously, on the 17th (local time), the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced its decision to impose port entry fees on Chinese shipping companies, shipping companies operating Chinese-built vessels, and car carriers built in foreign countries.

Spokesperson Lin argued that this measure will increase global shipping costs, disrupt the stability of global production and supply chains, raise inflationary pressures within the United States, and harm the interests of American consumers and businesses. He added that, ultimately, it will not revitalize the U.S. shipbuilding industry.

He further urged the United States to immediately cease its wrongful actions and warned that China will take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
