Yeoncheon County Opens Senior Center: "Improved Quality of Life for Seniors, Boosted Local Vitality" Jeon Jinseon, Yangpyeong County Governor, and other attendees are cutting the ribbon at the opening ceremony of the 'Yangpyeong Senior Club,' established to create various job opportunities for the elderly, held on the 17th. Provided by Yangpyeong County.

The event was attended by Jeon Jinseon, Governor of Yangpyeong County; Oh Hyeja, Vice Chairperson of the Yangpyeong County Council; council members Yoon Soonok and Choi Youngbo; Kim Yongnyeong, President of the Yangpyeong County branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association; and heads of various local institutions and organizations. The ceremony included the official opening, a ribbon-cutting, and a tour of the facility.

Notably, the opening ceremony also included the launch of the '2025 Senior Job Project.' Participants in the program took a pledge to lead the way in redefining the image of healthy seniors within the local community.

Yeoncheon County has a high proportion of elderly residents, with those aged 65 and older accounting for 32% of the total population, highlighting the need for proactive policies to address aging issues. In response, Yangpyeong County has been preparing to establish the Yangpyeong Senior Club since 2023 to actively address the growing demand for senior jobs and to develop customized job opportunities that reflect local characteristics. In an open recruitment held last year, the social welfare foundation 'With-Can Welfare Foundation' was selected as the operating organization, and the club was officially established in January this year.

The Yeoncheon County Senior Center is a two-story building with a total area of 787 square meters, offering various spaces such as program rooms, a health promotion room, counseling rooms, and a large auditorium. Located near Yeoncheon Station, the last stop on Subway Line 1, it boasts excellent accessibility and is expected to promote interaction among local residents and positively influence the inflow of population to the area.

The Yangpyeong Senior Club operates 11 business teams, recruiting 270 seniors and launching its programs in April this year. Currently, Yangpyeong County provides jobs to approximately 3,500 seniors through five senior job service agencies.

Jeon Jinseon, Governor of Yangpyeong County, stated, "As our society ages, the Yangpyeong Senior Club plays a vital role in providing seniors with vibrant social activities and developing jobs that utilize their diverse experiences." He expressed his strong support for the successful start of the Yangpyeong Senior Club.

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province plans to revitalize population-declining areas such as Yeoncheon, Gapyeong, Pocheon, and Dongducheon through customized strategies in the future.

Sung Injae, Director of Balanced Development for Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "The opening of the Senior Center will play an important role not only in improving local welfare but also in advancing the development of areas experiencing population decline." He added, "We must expand various policies and programs to lead sustainable development."
