Hong Deokho Shares Experiences as Director of Sports for the Disabled at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
Special Lecture Highlights the Value of Empathy and Solidarity for Future Special Education Teachers
On April 18, the College of Education at Baekseok University invited alumnus Hong Deokho, who currently serves as Director of the Division of Sports for the Disabled at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to deliver a special lecture.
This special lecture was organized to meaningfully commemorate Disability Day and to reaffirm the value of empathy and solidarity between prospective special education teachers and students with disabilities.
Drawing on his experiences living as a public official with a disability and implementing government policies for sports for the disabled, Hong shared his personal story.
He said, "During my university days, I never set limits for myself because of my disability, and that is how I became who I am today," and went on to discuss current policies as well as offer advice for students with disabilities.
Yoon Daeun, a sophomore in the Department of Adapted Physical Education, shared her thoughts, saying, "Listening to the experiences of a senior who leads disability policy in the field made me reconsider my career path," and added, "The idea that a disability can be a strength rather than a weakness resonated deeply with me."
