Iksan City Recruiting Applicants for "Hanok Subsidy Support in Historic District"

Applications accepted until August 29
Up to 150 million KRW in support

Iksan City in North Jeolla Province is accepting applications for the "2026 Hanok Subsidy Support Project within the Historic District" until August 29.

According to the city on April 18, the Hanok Subsidy Support Project is a traditional culture preservation initiative that began in 2015 with funding from the National Heritage Administration.

Residents who build, rebuild, renovate, or expand a Hanok within the designated historic district (Special Preservation District for Historical and Cultural Environment and Preservation and Promotion District) in parts of Geumma-myeon and Wanggung-myeon can receive financial support for construction costs.

Eligible applicants are citizens registered in Iksan. Selection is based on a scoring system that considers length of residence in Iksan, number of household members, status as a non-homeowner, and status as a socially disadvantaged person, among other criteria established for the Hanok Subsidy Support Project. Those with the highest scores will be selected.

Selected recipients can receive up to 120 million KRW, covering up to 50% of the total construction cost for a Hanok including a traditional wall, and up to 30 million KRW for the wall alone, also covering up to 50% of the total construction cost.

Notably, starting this year, the designated areas eligible for support have been expanded due to adjustments in the historic preservation and promotion implementation plan. As a result, more citizens are expected to benefit. For more details, applicants can check the notices on the Iksan City website or contact the Cultural Heritage Division.

A city official stated, "We will strive to restore the landscape of Iksan as a historic Baekje royal capital by supporting Hanok construction," adding, "We will continue to pursue various policies to preserve traditional culture and revitalize the historic district."
