According to the Gwangju Bukbu Fire Station on April 18, the fire occurred at around 12:30 p.m. the previous day in a garbage collection truck located inside the Gwangju Fire Academy in Sochon-dong, Gwangsan-gu. The driver of the vehicle noticed smoke coming from inside the truck while moving it for garbage collection and immediately requested assistance from Rescue Team 1 of the Bukbu Fire Station, who were preparing for a firefighting skills competition nearby.

The firefighters promptly brought a fire engine and sprayed water on the burning truck, fully extinguishing the flames in about three minutes. Thanks to the swift initial response, there were no casualties.

Moon Sangwoo, leader of Rescue Team 1 at the Bukbu Fire Station, said, "The fire broke out while we were training hard, but our team members remained calm and handled the situation without panic, allowing us to resolve it without major damage. I hope we can finish the rest of our training well and achieve good results in the competition."
