PanStar Group is accelerating its entry into the defense industry sector.
On April 15, PanStar Enterprise and FuriosaAI held a technical briefing to introduce the NPU (Neural Processing Unit)-based AI solutions of FuriosaAI, a company specializing in AI semiconductors. The event was attended by military information system officials, Military Mutual Aid Association C&C, SysOne, Nubicom, and other related companies.
This event was part of the joint cooperation for entry into the defense industry that PanStar Enterprise and FuriosaAI agreed upon last year. FuriosaAI's flagship AI inference NPU 'Renegade (RNGD)' and 'Warboy', which is specialized for image and video analysis, were introduced.
These products are recognized as the only commercialized Made in Korea products capable of enhancing the efficiency of military operations by leveraging their low power consumption and high performance characteristics.
At the Defense Expo held in June last year, PanStar Enterprise announced its plan to develop a mobile, battalion-level AI tactical platform based on FuriosaAI's technology.
FuriosaAI recently attracted market attention after reportedly receiving an acquisition offer from Meta worth $800 million (approximately 1.2 trillion KRW). As the only domestic AI semiconductor maker in Korea to have launched commercialized products, the company is drawing attention not only from the government and political circles but also in the global market.
After signing a business cooperation agreement in April last year, PanStar Enterprise and FuriosaAI jointly participated in the Japan AI EXPO in November, where they introduced their products and technologies to major Japanese AI companies such as SoftBank Group, NEC, and Meidensha, and agreed to pursue PoC (Proof of Concept) projects.
Kang Byungsoo, Head of Future Business at PanStar Group, stated, "While FuriosaAI was searching for a defense business partner in the AI field, it recognized PanStar Enterprise's AI capabilities, leading to collaboration in both the defense sector and Japan business. This event provided an opportunity to deepen the understanding of defense officials regarding the AI information system construction project for the defense sector that both companies have been preparing since last year."
