Director Jung Yumi's "Glasses" to Be Screened at Cannes Critics' Week

First Korean Animated Short Film Invited to Competition Section

Director Jung Yumi's animated film will be featured at the Cannes Film Festival next month.

Director Jung Yumi's "Glasses" to Be Screened at Cannes Critics' Week Movie still cut from "Glasses"

The French Critics Association announced on the 17th (local time) that Jung's "Glasses" will be screened in the short film competition section of the 78th Cannes Critics' Week. Critics' Week is an unofficial section operated by the Cannes Film Festival, inviting both feature and short films that showcase fresh artistic sensibilities. This is the first time a Korean animated film has been selected as a short film competitor in this section.

"Glasses" tells the story of a woman who visits an optician and comes to face and reconcile with her inner shadow. Director Jung, who directed the film, is one of the most prominent animation directors recognized at international film festivals. In 2009, she was invited to the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes with "Dust Kid," and her works "Math Test" (2010), "Love Games" (2013), "House of Existence" (2022), and "Circle" (2024) were selected for the short film competition at the Berlin International Film Festival. With "Love Games," she also became the first Korean animator to win the Grand Prix at the Zagreb International Animation Festival.

With this, "Glasses" has become the only Korean film to be selected for this year's Cannes Film Festival. Previously released lists of official and unofficial selections did not include any Korean feature films.
