Gallup Poll on Next Presidential Candidates
Lee Jaemyung, Hong Joonpyo, Han Ducksoo, Kim Moonsoo, and Han Donghoon Lead the Rankings
Party Support: Democratic Party 42%, People Power Party 34%
Former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung ranked first outside the margin of error with 38% in Gallup's poll on preferred future political leaders, according to a recent survey.
Korea Gallup announced that, in a survey conducted from April 15 to 17 among 1,000 voters aged 18 and older nationwide (with a 95% confidence level and a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points), former leader Lee was recorded at 38%.
He was followed by Hong Joon-pyo, former Daegu mayor from the People Power Party, Han Duck-soo, acting president and prime minister, and Kim Moon-soo, former minister of employment and labor, each with 7%. Han Dong-hoon, former party leader, received 6%, and Lee Jun-seok of the Reform Party received 2%. Twenty-six percent did not name a specific individual.
This is the first time since January 2024 that former leader Lee has reached a 38% approval rating. Gallup stated, "Lee Jae-myung's preference was in the low 20% range from January to July 2024, in the mid-to-high 20% range from September to early December, and has exceeded 30% since mid-December. This week's 38% is the highest recorded."
Within Democratic Party supporters, Lee's approval rating reached 82%. Among People Power Party supporters, Hong and Han each received 20%, Kim received 18%, and Han Dong-hoon received 16%, indicating no clear frontrunner.
Party support was recorded as 42% for the Democratic Party, 34% for the People Power Party, 3% for the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, and 2% for the Reform Party. The proportion of respondents with no party affiliation was 18%.
The Democratic Party's support rose by 1 percentage point compared to the previous survey, while the People Power Party's support increased by 4 percentage points.
This survey was conducted through interviews by telephone surveyors using randomly generated mobile phone numbers. The contact rate was 41.7%, and the response rate was 14.8%. For more details, refer to the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission.
