BISTEP Prepares Timely Basic Data for R&D Statistics

Establishing a Real-Time Monitoring System for R&D Projects with Municipal Investment This Year
Introducing the 'Predictive Input Survey and Analysis' System for Real-Time Status Analysis

Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu) will introduce the 'Predictive Input Survey and Analysis' system for the first time in Busan to support real-time status analysis and policy planning for Busan's research and development projects.

Since 2016, BISTEP has been conducting the 'Busan R&D Project Survey and Analysis,' which analyzes R&D projects completed in the previous year. Previously, survey results were provided about one year and two months after the completion of the R&D projects. However, with the introduction of the 'Predictive Input Survey and Analysis' system, it is expected that the timing of information provision will be significantly shortened, as the status of municipal investment for the current year can be quickly identified.

This year's survey comprehensively analyzed the real-time progress of R&D projects, including △research funding scale, △project type, and △standard classification information. In the second half of the year, an additional survey will be conducted on the status of supplementary budget allocation, analyzing △distribution of R&D projects, △major research fields, and △budget investment trends. The results will be used to △improve policy efficiency, △provide a basis for project planning, and △set investment priorities.

Through this system, BISTEP plans to advance Busan's R&D statistical infrastructure, predict investment trends by sector, and contribute to building a regional innovation ecosystem. In addition, the collected data will be actively utilized to provide customized policy support and to establish mid- to long-term strategies for strengthening scientific and technological competitiveness.

Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP, emphasized, "This system is a key device to enhance the speed and accuracy of policy decisions by diagnosing the status of Busan's R&D in real time," and added, "We will continue to develop data-based policies to respond to the changing R&D environment, provide basic data, and help Busan leap forward as a regionally specialized R&D hub."

BISTEP plans to publish the results of this year's survey in October as the '2025 Busan R&D Project Predictive Input Survey and Analysis Report,' which will be made available through the BISTEP website and BTIS (Busan Science and Technology Information Service).
