Government to Invest 959.1 Billion KRW in US Tariff Response and Advanced Industry Competitiveness Enhancement [2025 Supplementary Budget]

6.53 Trillion Won Invested Solely in Responding to Tariff Damages
Advanced Industry Sector Budget Increased by 306 Billion Won

As the government has prepared a supplementary budget (supplementary budget) worth 12.2 trillion won, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has allocated 959.1 billion won of this amount to focus on responding to trade risks and fostering advanced industries.


According to the supplementary budget on the 18th, the largest portion of the budget under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is allocated to areas responding to trade risks such as the United States' imposition of reciprocal tariffs, with a total of 653.1 billion won invested. A budget of 88.8 billion won has been allocated for tariff response export vouchers and the operation of 'Tariff Response 119' to resolve export difficulties faced by domestic companies burdened by tariffs.


In addition, 7.4 billion won has been increased for responding to Trade Technical Barriers (TBT), and 1.9 billion won for establishing trade infrastructure and strengthening capabilities. The contribution to the trade insurance fund to support overseas orders for large projects such as defense and shipbuilding will increase to 300 billion won.


Support for strengthening the domestic production base and stabilizing supply chains is also included. A budget of 39.6 billion won has been allocated to induce domestic investment by returning companies and foreign-invested companies, and 215.4 billion won will be invested for stockpiling critical minerals and expanding domestic production.

A total of 306 billion won has been increased for the advanced industry sector. 117 billion won has been allocated for the construction of infrastructure (power, wastewater, etc.) for advanced strategic industry specialized complexes such as semiconductors and secondary batteries, and especially, 62.6 billion won will be newly invested in the undergrounding project of transmission lines in the Yongin and Pyeongtaek semiconductor specialized complexes.


23 billion won has been allocated to support the shared use of chip verification equipment for fabless companies, and 1 billion won has been allocated for the expansion of the 'Semiconductor Academy,' a semiconductor workforce training center, to non-metropolitan areas.


Additionally, 70 billion won has been added to promote new investments by material, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) companies, and 2 billion won has been allocated for loan interest subsidies to support eco-friendly vehicle transition investments by automobile parts manufacturers. To expand and advance digital infrastructure in industrial complexes, 51.1 billion won has been increased for industrial complex environment improvement projects.


An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said, "Once this supplementary budget passes the National Assembly, we will promptly execute it and thoroughly manage each project to ensure they have real effects in the industrial field."
