Chungnam Province Applies for 'Distributed Energy Specialized Region' Contest Chungnam Provincial Government Office Building View

On the 18th, Chungnam Province announced that it had applied for the designation of two sites?Seosan Daesan Petrochemical Industrial Complex and Boryeong Gojung National Industrial Complex?in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's public contest for 'Distributed Energy Specialized Zones.'

A Distributed Energy Specialized Zone is a system where electricity produced within the region is directly consumed by nearby industrial complexes, which is expected to help stabilize the power supply and reduce electricity costs.

The Seosan Daesan Complex, which features both a district energy facility and a large-scale industrial complex, is drawing attention as a power demand-attracting model. Boryeong is being evaluated as a suitable area for attracting new demand, such as data centers, in connection with its renewable energy generation complex.

The province aims to simultaneously revitalize the local economy and achieve carbon neutrality through this contest, and plans to pursue specialized zone designation for other projects such as the Naepo Agricultural-Bio Convergence Industry Cluster (2027) and the Dangjin Green Energy Hub (2030).

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will conduct document and on-site evaluations and plans to make the final selection of specialized zones in the first half of this year.
