Special Lectures for Caregivers in Celebration of Family Month in May
Strengthening Family Communication with Topics Ranging from Literacy to Parenting for the Growth of Parents and Children
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is operating a special lecture series for caregivers titled 'Time for Parents and Children to Grow Together' in the seminar room of Mapo Central Library in celebration of Family Month in May.
This lecture series is conducted in connection with the goals of Seoul Metropolitan Government's reading culture policy brand 'Hipdok Seoul.'
'Hipdok Seoul' is a reading culture project that goes beyond simple reading promotion, aiming for changes in daily life and growth in relationships through books. The name is a compound of the English adjective 'hip,' meaning 'trendy,' and the Korean word for reading (讀), 'dok.'
Mapo-gu has prepared this lecture series to embody the purpose of 'Hipdok Seoul,' enabling caregivers and children to grow together through a life with books.
The lectures will be held three times, focusing on the themes of reading, psychology, and communication.
The first lecture will be held on May 9 at 7:30 PM, led by Professor Na Min-ae from Seoul National University. Under the theme 'Lifelong Reading Habits Cultivated at Home,' it will guide parents of elementary school children on the importance of literacy, recommended books by age, and effective reading methods.
The second lecture will take place on May 10 at 10:30 AM, with Professor Kim Min-jung from Ajou University presenting 'Parenting Learned Through Psychology.' This session will explain children's temperaments and parenting attitudes to caregivers of minor children and introduce healthy interaction methods.
The final lecture will conclude on May 28 at 2:00 PM with Professor Park Jung-yoon from Chung-Ang University presenting 'Family Communication.' Professor Park will share techniques to enhance positive communication and emotional bonds within families amid social changes.
Applications to participate in the lecture program will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Mapo Central Library website. Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "I hope this lecture will provide practical help to caregivers and become an opportunity to bring smiles to every home." He added, "Mapo-gu will continue to gather diverse opinions and promote more beneficial library programs."
