'Yoon's Alma Mater' Chungam High School Alumni Association: "Son of Chungam, well done... Evaluation is the task of history"

Kim Yonghyun and Lee Sangmin, Former Ministers, Are Also Alumni

The Chungam High School Alumni Association in Seoul posted a message on its official website referring to former President Yoon Seok-yeol as "Son of Chungam" and saying "Thank you for your efforts."

On the 15th, the Chungam High School Alumni Association posted an article titled "Son of Chungam, Former President Yoon Seok-yeol" on its official website, stating, "Alumnus Yoon Seok-yeol served as the 20th President of the Republic of Korea, representing the nation in public office for about three years starting in 2022," and "On April 4, 2025, he stepped down from the presidency following the Constitutional Court's impeachment ruling, and has since returned to civilian status."

They added, "Through this record of an alumnus who served in public office, we aim to leave a legacy as Chungam people." They continued, "The evaluation of alumnus Yoon will be left to history, but we remember the journey of a Chungam person who held the heaviest responsibility more than anyone else," and "Whether liked or disliked, he is undoubtedly a son of Chungam, and his name will remain in the school's history." They also added, "There is only one thing we want to say to him: thank you for your efforts."

The post was met with critical comments such as "The Alumni Association sympathizes with the insurrection," and "The Alumni Association supports the impeached president."

In response to the controversy, the Alumni Association stated, "We humbly accept the sharp criticisms and concerns," and "We will review the matter through discussion and consider making the post private."

Previously, the Chungam High School Alumni Association leadership had called for the resignation of Yoon Myung-hwa, chairman of the Chungam Foundation, citing that her remarks describing former President Yoon as a "shameful graduate" were inappropriate and reckless.

Meanwhile, Chungam High School is the alma mater of former President Yoon (8th class), former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun (7th class), former Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min (12th class), and former Commander of the Defense Counterintelligence Command Yeo In-hyung (17th class).
