Gwangjin-gu Operates Dedicated Organization for Customized Support of Isolated Households

Three comprehensive social welfare centers located in Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) have been finally selected in the Seoul Metropolitan Government's '2025 Local Unit Isolated Household Dedicated Organization Operation Project' competition.

This project was established to early identify socially isolated households, which are increasing along with the rise of single-person households, and to meticulously build a customized welfare system for them. The district plans to designate these welfare centers as key institutions supporting isolated households within the region.

The selected welfare centers will focus on discovering individuals suspected of isolation or at high risk of crisis through various promotional activities and cooperation with residents familiar with local conditions, such as community leaders and members of the local social security council. Once identified, in-depth counseling will be conducted to carefully assess their needs, difficulties, and level of isolation, and appropriate welfare services will be connected accordingly.

Support services include ▲ daily life assistance such as providing side dishes, organizing and tidying up, accompanying to hospitals, and supplying goods ▲ linkage to professional institutions and private counseling services for mental health counseling and psychological support ▲ participation in programs that form social networks, such as cooking classes and cultural experiences, offering comprehensive services aimed at restoring quality of life beyond simple support.

In particular, small group meetings and community activities will be actively supported to help the beneficiaries build social relationships. Through various activities, step-by-step and continuous support will be provided to enable sharing and encouragement of each other's experiences and emotions.

The district has divided its 15 neighborhoods into three zones and assigned each welfare center to a specific zone to establish a seamless support system. If there are isolated households or neighbors in need of help nearby, inquiries can be made to the welfare center responsible for the respective zone.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "With the recent increase in single-person households, social isolation issues have deepened, and I am pleased that a more meticulous welfare service support system can be established through this project selection." He added, "I am grateful for the hard work and passion of the comprehensive social welfare center staff who carefully look after areas where public welfare services do not reach, despite difficult working conditions."
