With the 'Bom Dream' Program in Gwangjin-gu, Both Body and Mind Grow Healthier
'Bom Dream' Package Includes Sprout Growing and Coloring Book Sets
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is operating the 'Bom Dream' program to help the emotional stability of elderly people living alone who suffer from depression and lethargy.
According to the district, as of the end of last year, the population of elderly people living alone in Gwangjin-gu was 14,469, accounting for 24.2% of the total. With aging, the number is increasing every year, so measures are needed to address gaps in health care and solitary deaths.
Accordingly, the district has prepared the 'Bom Dream' program to take care of the physical and mental health of the elderly. Through the healing program, it supports the improvement of self-esteem and alleviation of isolation for elderly people living alone. After a depression screening test, 120 elderly people at risk of depression and suicide are selected, and the program will be fully operated from April.
The program begins with the 'Bom Dream' package. Visiting nurses directly deliver the package, consisting of sprout growing kits and coloring book sets, to the participants and guide them on how to use it. They check the weekly progress and consult on health through phone calls or visits at least once a week.
The tasks are carried out over four weeks. They include easy-to-practice daily activities such as growing bean sprouts, taking daily walks, and filling in the coloring book. In the final fourth week, participants execute 'setting a meal for myself' and 'praising myself' using the sprouts they grew, enhancing self-esteem and helping psychological stability.
Even after the program ends, the service continues. If depressive feelings persist, customized visiting health care services will continue. If necessary, continuous management is provided in collaboration with related organizations to ensure expert help is available. For more details, contact the Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "I hope this 'Bom Dream' program will help heal the physical and mental health of the elderly," and added, "We will continue to discover support projects that can be practically felt and do our best to create a happy and healthy Gwangjin-gu for all elderly residents."
