Exhibition of Small Works by 10 Mid-Career and 33 Blue-Chip Artists
Jangsaengpo Cultural Warehouse will hold an exhibition titled 'Enchanted by Abstraction, Captivated by Color' from the 25th of this month to June 8th, spotlighting works by pioneers of modern and contemporary Korean art, the Whale Culture Foundation, the operator, announced on the 17th.
This exhibition highlights over 50 artists, from Kim Whanki, a pioneer of Korean abstract art, to Gwak Gyejeong, a world-renowned craftsman widely known for 'Duck and Frog.'
Additionally, it features large-scale paintings and sculptures by 10 mid-career artists, as well as more than 100 small works by 33 'blue-chip' artists recognized at domestic and international art fairs and various art exhibitions.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation this year, the crystal trophy awarded to Son Kijeong, a hero of Korean marathon, at his victory will also be displayed.
Seo Dongwook, chairman of the Whale Culture Foundation and mayor of Nam-gu, Ulsan, said, "The Korean art market has grown not only quantitatively compared to the past but has also become much richer and deeper in content. Without the arduous efforts of the 'pioneers' who wrote the early history of modern and contemporary art, today's achievements would have been impossible. This exhibition will be a special planned exhibition to look back on their artistic worlds and gauge the current status of the Korean art scene."
