The People Power Party has finalized the lineup for the first debate among the presidential primary candidates. Group A will include candidates Yoo Jeong-bok, Ahn Cheol-soo, Kim Moon-soo, and Yang Hyang-ja, while Group B will feature Lee Cheol-woo, Na Kyung-won, Hong Joon-pyo, and Han Dong-hoon. They will compete under the themes of 'Youth Future' and 'Social Integration,' respectively.
On the morning of the same day, the People Power Party held the first primary media day at the National Assembly central party office and arranged the debate groups accordingly.
On the 17th, the People Power Party Central Party Office in Yeouido, Seoul, hosted the '1st Primary Debate Media Day' event for the 21st Presidential Election. On this day, eight presidential primary candidates (Assemblyman Ahn Cheol-soo, former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, Mayor of Incheon Yoo Jeong-bok, Governor of Gyeongbuk Lee Cheol-woo, Assemblywoman Na Kyung-won, former Assemblywoman Yang Hyang-ja, former Representative Han Dong-hoon, and former Mayor of Daegu Hong Joon-pyo) were scheduled to be assigned to Debate Group A or B. The candidates chose their groups and numbers in the order they arrived at the party office. The order was Ahn Cheol-soo, Kim Moon-soo, Yoo Jeong-bok, Lee Cheol-woo, Na Kyung-won, Yang Hyang-ja, Han Dong-hoon, and Hong Joon-pyo. The debate topics were provided in advance so that candidates could select their preferred themes and opponents.
First, Candidate Ahn selected the seat assigned as number 2 in Group A, followed by Candidate Kim (number 3) and Candidate Yoo (number 1) joining the same group. Candidates Lee (number 1) and Na (number 2) chose Group B. When Candidate Yang took the number 4 seat in Group A, Group A was fully occupied, and the remaining seats in Group B were filled by Candidate Han (number 4) and Candidate Hong (number 3).
After finalizing the group assignments, the candidates will hold a vision contest on the 18th. Subsequently, debates will be held on the 19th for Group A and the 20th for Group B, according to their respective groups.
Kwon Young-se, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, delivered a congratulatory message after the first primary group assignments were completed, stating, "The primary is starting amid national interest and expectations," and urged, "Candidates should compete with skill and dignity, leaving no room for slander or intrigue."
