Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation to Operate Every Weekend and During Festivals... Resolving Transportation Inconveniences for Tourists
"Yeoju Tourism Also by Ddokbus" - Convenient Call Service via App
Service Operates at 10 Locations Including Yeoju Station, Yeoju Terminal, Silleuksa Temple, and King Sejong’s Tomb
2025, the Year of Yeoju Tourism... Expectations for Revitalizing Yeoju Tourism and Local Economy
Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation announced on the 17th that, in celebration of the 'Year of Yeoju Tourism 2025,' it will pilot operate the 'Tourism-type Ddokbus' every weekend starting from the 19th to improve awareness of Yeoju’s tourist attractions and enable citizens and tourists visiting these sites to travel conveniently and safely by public transportation.
Yeoju City and Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation have been reviewing and discussing measures to alleviate travel inconveniences for tourists in Yeoju and to revitalize local tourism and the regional economy since January 2025. As a result, they decided to operate the 'Tourism-type Ddokbus,' a customized mobility service connecting and operating between major transportation facilities and tourist sites.
Despite Yeoju having many cultural and historical sites and seasonal attractions, there were either no bus routes serving these cultural and tourist sites or, if routes existed, the long intervals of over an hour between buses caused travel inconveniences, limiting tourism.
In fact, tourists who took the Gyeonggang Line to visit the Gyeonggi Dulle-gil (Yeoju Course 34: Silleuksa Temple to Gangcheonbo) had no choice but to take taxis or use private cars.
Additionally, visitors using private cars to access the Dulle-gil faced difficulties walking the trail because they parked at Silleuksa Temple, walked to Gangcheonbo, and found it hard to return to Silleuksa Temple afterward.
The service will operate every Saturday and Sunday on weekends and during local festivals and events from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with fares set at 1,450 KRW for adults, the same as regular city buses.
The operation covers a total of 10 locations, including two transportation facilities?Yeoju Station and Yeoju Terminal?for tourists visiting from outside Yeoju, and eight tourist sites: Silleuksa Temple, King Sejong’s Tomb, King Hyojong’s Tomb, Yeoju Hangeul Market, Yeongwollu Pavilion, Geumeunmorae Riverside Park, Hwanghaksan Arboretum, and Gangcheonbo.
The Tourism-type Ddokbus can be called and used via the 'Ddokta' app and kiosks installed at the operation points. Users select their boarding and alighting stops, as well as departure and arrival points, through the app or kiosk and call the bus, which is then dispatched in real time. Vehicle information is provided directly to users’ mobile phones for convenient use.
Detailed operation and usage instructions can be found in the notices within the 'Ddokta' app and in leaflets placed throughout Yeoju’s tourist sites.
It is expected that various tourists?including outsiders visiting Yeoju via the Gyeonggang Line or express buses, families visiting Geumeunmorae Camping Site, and explorers accessing the Dulle-gil by private car?will be able to travel freely and comfortably using the Tourism-type Ddokbus.
Going forward, plans include introducing eco-friendly tourist vehicles, continuously developing and linking tourism products such as local currency or tourism passes, and expanding the service not only within Yeoju but also to cultural and tourist sites in other regions.
Yoon Tae-wan, Director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government’s Metropolitan Transportation Policy Division, said, "The Yeoju Tourism-type Ddokbus, the first of its kind in Gyeonggi Province, is a policy that maximizes the efficiency of Ddokbus operations by facilitating local residents’ mobility on weekdays and improving tourist accessibility on weekends and during festivals. Gyeonggi Province will continue to do its best to promote and enhance the efficiency of Ddokbus."
Min Kyung-sun, President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, said, "Through the operation of the Tourism-type Ddokbus, we hope that both tourists visiting Yeoju and users of the Gyeonggi Dulle-gil can travel more conveniently and comfortably. We will continue to actively cooperate with Yeoju City to provide sustainable tourism transportation services and revitalize local tourism."
