To Be Held Across Jeonju City from April 30 to May 9
Jeonju City in Jeollabuk-do is accelerating preparations for the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival, one of the most representative film festivals in Korea.
The city announced on the 17th that it is thoroughly preparing for the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival, which will be held from the 30th of this month to the 9th of next month, to ensure that all visitors can enjoy the festival safely and comfortably.
As large crowds are expected during the festival period, the city plans to minimize inconvenience for citizens and tourists visiting areas such as the Film Street in Gosa-dong and other parts of Jeonju, and to create a safe and pleasant event space by conducting intensive safety inspections, cracking down on illegal parking, maintaining Film Street, implementing cleaning measures, and regulating illegal advertisements.
In addition, the city will make every effort to ensure a safe festival by continuously strengthening cooperation with related organizations such as the Jeonju International Film Festival Organizing Committee and the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency.
About 420 volunteers (Jiffjigi), who were selected last month under the slogan "Share Your Spring with the Jeonju International Film Festival!", will also actively support smooth operations and audience experiences during the festival.
Specifically, the volunteers will be assigned to 12 teams and 24 parts according to their strengths and skills, including the Korean Film Team, International Film Team, PR & Media Team, Jeonju Project Team, Marketing Team, Audience Service Team, Design Team, Cine Tour Team, Technical Team, Operations Team, Invitation Team, and Planning & Operations Office, taking the lead in ensuring the festival's success.
The opening ceremony will be held at the Moak Hall of the Sori Arts Center of Korea, and the closing ceremony will take place at the Samsung Culture Center of Jeonbuk National University.
This year's Jeonju International Film Festival, held under the slogan "We Always Cross the Line," saw 1,835 entries for the Korean Film Competition and 662 films from 86 countries for the International Competition, setting a new record for the most Korean film submissions for the second consecutive year, fueling excitement even before the festival begins.
During the ten-day festival, 224 films from 57 countries will be screened. The opening film is "Continental '25" directed by Radu Jude, and the closing film is "In the Land of Machines" directed by Kim Ok-young.
This year’s festival will also feature seven Australian films under the theme "Another Australia: From the 1980s to the Present" in celebration of the 2025 Jeonju World Culture Week - Australia Culture Week. Additionally, the "Canada Focus" program, a cultural exchange between the Jeonju International Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival, will further strengthen cultural exchanges with various countries.
Furthermore, the "Jeonju Cine Tour X Walk," an outdoor film screening program where visitors can enjoy movies against the backdrop of special night views throughout Jeonju, a tourism hub city, will be held at Jeolla Gamyeong during the festival. Large-scale "Joseon Pop Performances" will also take place, offering a lively and festive film experience.
No Eunyoung, Director of Culture, Sports, and Tourism at Jeonju City, said, "We have prepared a variety of programs and films, so we hope many visitors and citizens will join us to enjoy the spring film festival together."
