The company explained that this MOU was signed to strengthen localization strategies in preparation for full-scale production starting in 2027, following last year's contract with Romania worth 1.4 trillion KRW for K9 self-propelled howitzers and other projects.
The three institutions plan to cooperate on matters related to hiring local personnel for the self-propelled howitzer production facility, supporting industry-academia scholarship students, establishing R&D centers within universities, human exchange programs such as on-site internship training, and opening exchange student courses.
Bae Jin-gyu, head of the subsidiary, said, "Through this industry-academia-research cooperation, Hanwha Aerospace will promote the establishment of manufacturing facilities in Romania along with nurturing local talented personnel and setting up R&D centers within universities, serving as a catalyst for Romania's economic and industrial development."
Mihnea Costoiu, president of Bucharest Polytechnic University, stated, "We are very proud to collaborate with Hanwha Aerospace and Pusan National University," adding, "We expect this to be an opportunity for students and faculty to jointly develop advanced technologies in the global defense sector."
