Targeting 2,151 km of Roads and 468 Facilities
Thorough Inspections to Prevent Sinkholes
Daejeon City announced that, in cooperation with its five districts, it will conduct spring road maintenance for 2025 over the course of one month starting from the 17th.
The maintenance will cover 2,151 km of roads, 325 bridges, 78 tunnels, 49 pedestrian overpasses, and 16 underpasses, totaling 468 road facilities within the city.
The focus will be on repairing damaged areas such as potholes, cracks, and subsidence on road surfaces, as well as conducting safety inspections and ensuring the functionality of major road facilities including bridges, tunnels, and underpasses to prevent accidents.
Additionally, sediment will be removed from drainage facilities and scoured areas will be maintained to thoroughly prepare for the rainy season. Pre-inspections to prevent rockfall on slopes and maintenance of ridge gutters will also be carried out.
In particular, in order to prevent accidents such as sinkholes that may occur due to ground weakening after the thawing season, thorough inspections of underground facilities and surrounding ground will be conducted in parallel. For large construction sites, there will be a focused inspection on compliance with safety management plans and related regulations.
The city plans to share the progress of maintenance with the five autonomous districts, analyze best practices and shortcomings, and reflect these findings in the evaluation of spring road maintenance for 2025.
Kim Jongmyung, Director of the Daejeon City Railway Construction Bureau, said, "Through this spring road maintenance, we will create a safe and clean road environment to increase citizen satisfaction."
