Launched in 2004, the World Car Awards is considered one of the world's top three automotive awards alongside the North American Car of the Year (NACTOY) and the European Car of the Year (COTY). The results are announced annually at the New York International Auto Show.
Unlike the other two awards, which are based on specific regional markets, the World Car Awards target the global market and qualify new cars that have sold more than 10,000 units annually on at least two continents, giving it high prestige and symbolism.
The award categories for the World Car Awards include ▲World Car of the Year ▲World Electric Vehicle of the Year ▲World Performance Car of the Year ▲World Luxury Car of the Year ▲World Urban Car of the Year ▲World Car Design of the Year, totaling six categories.
For this evaluation, a total of 96 distinguished automotive journalists from 30 countries worldwide, including Korea, the United States, Europe, China, Japan, and India, participated as judges for the World Car Awards. They test-drove the nominated vehicles and voted to select the Car of the Year in each category.
