Kim Byung-hwan, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, will visit the United States to support overseas local fundraising for Korean startup and venture companies.
The Financial Services Commission announced that Chairman Kim will visit the U.S. from the 20th to the 26th to help strengthen the supply function of venture capital in the Korean financial sector.
On April 21, he will visit the U.S. branch of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute in Boston and AVEO Oncology, which holds FDA-approved anticancer drugs, and hold a meeting with the bio venture capital (VC) industry. He plans to broadly listen to opinions on the roles and functions of the domestic financial sector in supporting the overseas expansion of Korean companies in medical-related fields such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and cosmetics.
On the 22nd, in New York, he will hold high-level talks with Blackstone, one of the world’s largest alternative investment firms, and Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI), which calculates the MSCI indices. He plans to explain the Korean government’s recent efforts to improve access to capital and foreign exchange markets and emphasize that the Korean financial market has shown a steady trend despite recent domestic and international political uncertainties, including trade policies.
The final destination is Silicon Valley, the global hub of innovation and startups. Through attendance at the Korea Development Bank’s Next Round event scheduled for the 23rd, he will support the U.S. market entry and local fundraising activities of Korean startup and venture companies.
On the 24th, he will meet with the head of Intel Capital, one of the world’s largest corporate venture capitals (CVC), and listen to opinions on venture investment systems, investment management methods, the success factors of Silicon Valley, and areas for improvement in the Korean venture capital market through a Korea-U.S. venture investment industry meeting.
