Sungshin CM, a Subsidiary of Sungshin Cement, Obtains Industry's First Low-Carbon Product Certification

After Review by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Ministry of Environment

Sungsin Cement announced on the 17th that Sungsin CM, a subsidiary of Sungsin Cement, has become the first in the industry to obtain low-carbon product certification from the Environmental Label Certification Review Committee of the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Ministry of Environment.

Sungsin CM, a basic materials specialist company and an affiliate of Sungsin Cement, acquired this certification for its ground granulated blast furnace slag powder product used in concrete, which is produced and sold by Sungsin Cement. The Environmental Label Certification system quantitatively evaluates the environmental impact generated throughout the entire lifecycle of a product, from production to disposal, and provides this information to consumers.

The certified product from Sungsin CM excelled particularly in the carbon footprint category among seven environmental performance indicators, including resource footprint, carbon footprint, ozone layer impact, acid rain, eutrophication, photochemical smog, and water footprint, officially recognizing it as an eco-friendly product.

The carbon footprint is an indicator that expresses the amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated throughout the entire lifecycle of a product in terms of carbon dioxide equivalents, serving as a standard to gauge its impact on global warming. Sungsin CM expects this certification to serve as an opportunity to further enhance its competitiveness in the eco-friendly construction materials market.

A representative from Sungsin CM stated, "This certification is the result of our efforts to practice eco-friendly management and develop sustainable products. We will continue to develop carbon emission reduction technologies and lead the eco-friendly construction materials market."

Meanwhile, Sungsin CM is strengthening the production of eco-friendly construction materials through process improvements, energy efficiency, and expanded use of eco-friendly raw materials, and plans to actively contribute to creating a sustainable construction environment through collaboration with domestic and international construction projects.
