The Participation of Over 660 Senior Volunteers Holds Great Significance

POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks recently demonstrated warm neighborly love by launching the talent development project "Learning and Sharing Together" for local senior citizens at the Jungma Senior Welfare Center in Jungma-dong, Gwangyang City.
About 100 people attended the event, including Jung Inhwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, Choi Daewon, Chairman of Gwangyang City Council, Park Jongil, Deputy Head of Administration at Gwangyang Steelworks, Kim Jaekyung, Chairman of the Gwangyang City Love Sharing Welfare Foundation, and members of the Gwangyang Steelworks Traditional Play Culture Talent Volunteer Group, among other event officials.
The "Learning and Sharing Together" project is a program designed to help seniors about to enter the second chapter of their lives after retirement contribute directly to society by learning a variety of activities such as choir, dance, and emotional support, which can be used in volunteer work. Gwangyang Steelworks plans to provide a total of 48 million KRW in support.
This project consists of three main programs over about nine months: "Harmony of Love Talent Development," where participants learn choir, harmonica performances, and singing classes to perform for culturally marginalized groups; "Senior Health Happy Dance Talent Development," where participants learn health exercises, trot dance, and Zumba dance to help foster bonding and improve health among seniors; and "Emotional Support Specialist Development," where participants learn calligraphy and Korean traditional brush writing to provide emotional support.
In particular, since this project helps seniors learn new skills and engage in sharing activities to support neighbors in need within the community, it is especially meaningful as it offers opportunities not only for the beneficiaries but also for the senior volunteers themselves to achieve health and self-fulfillment.
A total of about 660 seniors are expected to participate in the program. After completing the training, they plan to be active at senior welfare centers, nursing homes, senior hospitals, and local events.
Park Jongil, Deputy Head of Administration at Gwangyang Steelworks, said, "With the rapid aging phenomenon that we have never experienced before, emotional and health issues among seniors are becoming a social issue, so I believe this project will shine even brighter," adding, "Gwangyang Steelworks will continue to fulfill its role of sharing to add value to the world for the happiness and healthy lives of local seniors."
