Seongdong-gu Provides Customized Parent Counseling Support for High-Risk Youth Facing Depression and Other Issues

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is providing 'High-Risk Youth Parent Counseling' to parents who are struggling to raise high-risk youth facing dangers such as school violence victimization, suicide, and self-harm.

Last year, the Seongdong-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center (24-15 Haengdang-ro 6-gil) conducted counseling services for a total of 1,110 at-risk youth. As a result, 460 individuals, accounting for 41.4% of the target group, were identified as high-risk youth experiencing serious issues such as suicide and self-harm, requiring focused management.

Accordingly, starting this year, the district will operate the 'High-Risk Youth Parent Counseling' program for parents or guardians of youth aged 9 to 24 residing in the area.

This counseling is conducted one-on-one by professional counselors tailored to the characteristics of the participants, and is provided free of charge over a total of four sessions (50 minutes per session).

Through counseling, it aims to help alleviate the emotional difficulties and parenting stress experienced by parents in crisis situations involving youth depression, anxiety, delinquency, gambling, suicide, and self-harm, while enhancing positive communication skills and parenting efficacy to support the restoration of a healthy relationship with their children.

Since 2021, Seongdong-gu has established and operated the 'Seongdong-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center,' a specialized youth counseling support institution, providing counseling, preventive education, emergency rescue, and parent counseling services for youth experiencing psychological difficulties. Counseling applications can be made via phone or the website.

Mayor Jung Won-oh of Seongdong-gu stated, "We are providing tailored counseling to help not only youth experiencing psychological difficulties but also their primary caregivers, the parents, to recover their mental health and lead happy daily lives." He added, "We will continue to maintain careful attention to ensure no youth suffers from psychological or emotional difficulties and will do our best to promote customized support policies so they can grow healthily as members of society."
