Meeting with the U.S. Treasury Secretary Next Week
Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Strategy and Finance, stated on the 16th, "We will never rush the tariff negotiations with the United States."
Deputy Prime Minister Choi made this remark during his closing statement at the impeachment investigation hearing held by the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, saying, "The very final decision can be made by the new government."
He added, "There is the other party involved, and we are explaining the parts they request while preparing from the perspective of our national interest," and "There are many public officials who will work together with the new government anyway, and if those officials gain information and trust during consultations with U.S. officials, it will benefit our national interest."
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Choi will visit the United States next week to attend the G20 Finance Ministers' Meeting and meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Vestin to discuss trade issues. Since Secretary Vestin holds the key to U.S. trade policy, it is expected that discussions regarding mutual tariff negotiations will take place during the meeting.
