Bridge Completion Progress at 95%
"A Landmark Demonstrating China's Infrastructure Capabilities"
China is set to open the highest bridge in the world this coming June.
CNN reported on the 16th (local time) that "the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou Province, southwestern China, is currently nearing the final stages of construction," adding, "This bridge is expected to be the highest in the world, standing approximately 606 meters above the river surface."
According to the report, this bridge is taller than the Millau Viaduct in France, which is the tallest in the world at 343 meters. The Eiffel Tower is 324 meters tall.
The total length of this bridge is about 2,900 meters, and it is a steel truss suspension bridge. The total weight of the truss is approximately 22,000 tons, which is three times that of the Eiffel Tower. According to Guizhou provincial state media, construction of this bridge began on January 18, 2022, and it is scheduled to be completed by June 30 of this year.

Guizhou Province is a mountainous region with complex terrain in China. CNN stated, "China is making efforts to improve infrastructure nationwide," and "especially focusing on improving infrastructure in relatively less developed mountainous areas such as Guizhou Province, located 800 miles west of Shenzhen." CNN particularly described this bridge as "not merely breaking records," but as "a showcase of China's latest engineering achievements." Once opened, it will make it more convenient for cars and trucks to pass through the area, reducing travel time from 2 hours to 1 minute.
Zhang Shenglin, chief engineer of the Guizhou Expressway Group, told China Daily, "The bridge completion progress has reached 95%," and explained, "This mega project will be a world first in many aspects and will become a landmark demonstrating China's infrastructure capabilities."
