Experiences and Memories of Busan Citizens,
Tangible and Intangible Assets for Future Generations
Limited to Modern and Contemporary Era,
Previously Selected Heritages and Designated National Heritages Excluded
What are the hidden heritages of Busan worth preserving for the future?
The Busan Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) will hold a public contest for citizen proposals for the 2025 Busan Future Heritage selection from the 16th to the 30th.
The target for the Busan Future Heritage citizen proposal contest is tangible or intangible items that many Busan citizens have experienced or remember and are considered valuable to be passed on to future generations. However, it is limited to the modern and contemporary era, and already selected Busan Future Heritages, designated national heritages, and city-designated modern buildings are excluded.
Anyone interested in Busan Future Heritage can participate in this contest. To participate, submit the application form via email or QR online form during the contest period from the 16th to April 30th.
The final results of the contest will be announced on May 7th, and for further details, please refer to the Future Heritage News section on the Busan Future Heritage website or contact the Heritage Utilization and Registration Team at the city's Cultural Heritage Division.
If a proposal is deemed valuable enough to represent Busan and suitable as a Busan Future Heritage, up to 50 participants will receive a mobile gift certificate as an "Outstanding Proposal." Selected items will also be posted on the Busan Future Heritage website.
The list of outstanding citizen proposals and the list of expert-recommended heritages selected through the contest will be added to the "Busan Future Heritage Preliminary Candidate Review Materials" and will be considered as preliminary candidates through a citizen survey and deliberation by the City Future Heritage Preservation Committee.
Heritages selected as preliminary candidates will undergo a basic status survey and research service, and the final selection as Busan Future Heritage will be decided at the final deliberation of the City Future Heritage Preservation Committee around November this year.
The 95 "Busan Future Heritages" selected from 2019 to last year can be found on the Busan Future Heritage website.
Jo Yujang, Director of the Busan City Culture Bureau, said, "Citizen participation is more important than anything else from the candidate recruitment stage, so we hope for a lot of interest and participation," adding, "Busan Future Heritage is a heritage of Busan that citizens remember, share, and is valuable to pass on to future generations, and it is meaningful for citizens to voluntarily preserve, manage, and utilize future heritage."
