Supporting Postpartum Care for Vulnerable Mothers
Incheon City Signs MOU with Korea Postpartum Care Center Association
Incheon City is partnering with the Korea Postpartum Care Center Association to support postpartum care for mothers from vulnerable groups.
The city announced on the 16th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Incheon branch of the Korea Postpartum Care Center Association to help mothers with financial difficulties receive healthy and stable postpartum care.
The agreement includes cooperation to reduce postpartum care center fees and provide childbirth support for vulnerable mothers in the Incheon area.
Accordingly, 14 postpartum care centers in the Incheon area will offer partial fee reductions to mothers who are basic livelihood security recipients or belong to the lower-income bracket. Applicants need to submit the relevant documents before admission to the postpartum care center.
Lee Mi-sook, head of the Incheon branch of the Korea Postpartum Care Center Association, said, "We will actively cooperate with Incheon City regarding postpartum care for mothers and seek sustainable support measures together, rather than one-time efforts."
Meanwhile, Incheon City started the 'Mom Comfortable Postpartum Care Expense Support Project' in February, providing vouchers worth 1.5 million KRW to vulnerable pregnant women who have difficulty accessing postpartum care services.
The support targets mothers who have been registered residents in Incheon for more than 12 months and are actually residing there, including basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, persons with disabilities, North Korean defectors under protection, multicultural families with income below 65% of the median income, single-parent families, mothers with rare diseases, teenage couples, families with multiple births, and families with income below 60% of the median income.
The 1.5 million KRW postpartum care expense is provided as 'Incheon e-eum' points, a local currency, and can be used for postpartum care center fees, hospital bills, medicines, health supplements, yoga, and other postpartum health management costs for one year.
Based on a citizen survey showing high demand for postpartum care expense support, the city has enabled mothers to selectively use various postpartum health management services, not just postpartum care centers.
