Japanese master director Hirokazu Koreeda, known for films such as 'Like Father, Like Son' (2013) and 'Broker' (2022), will visit Korea.

On the 16th, T-cast, the media subsidiary of the Taekwang Group, announced that to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the art cinema Cinecube, it will hold a special exhibition titled 'Hirokazu Koreeda Special Exhibition: 25 Years with Koreeda' from the 23rd of this month to the 6th of next month.

This special exhibition is organized as a tribute to director Koreeda, who has received the most audience support at Cinecube so far. A total of 14 of Koreeda's works have been screened at Cinecube, attracting about 150,000 viewers, making him the highest-grossing director there.

Additionally, since 2010, Cinecube has been engaged in the import and distribution of art films, importing and screening six of Koreeda's films including 'Like Father, Like Son' and 'The Truth' (2019). Based on this connection, Koreeda is known to always visit Cinecube whenever he comes to Korea.

The special exhibition will screen 13 of the director's representative works, including 'Wonderful Life' (2001), which was screened to commemorate the first anniversary of Cinecube's opening, as well as 'Nobody Knows' (2005), 'Shoplifters' (2018), and 'Monster' (2023).

Director Koreeda will attend a special talk titled 'Why We Love Theaters' at 8 p.m. on the 29th. The talk will be hosted by film journalist So-mi Kim from Cine21, and actor Dong-hwi Lee will also be present.

On the following day, the 30th, Koreeda, who is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his feature film debut this year, will hold a masterclass introducing his creative world and directing philosophy. Director Ga-eun Yoon of the film 'Our Body' (2016) will lead the session, with about 50 film major students attending.

Jiye Park, team leader of Cinecube at T-cast, said, "Over the past 25 years, Cinecube has preserved the value of independent and art films while expanding the diversity of film culture. Through this special exhibition and conversations with director Koreeda, we hope people will reflect on what art films mean in our lives."
