Chonnam National University announced on the 16th that President Lee Geunbae participated in the 'Population Issue Awareness Improvement Relay Campaign' to raise social awareness about population issues.
On the 15th, President Lee joined the relay campaign to highlight the seriousness of population decline and low birth rates, and delivered a message to encourage citizens to improve their awareness of changes in population structure.
This participation follows Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong's involvement in the relay campaign on the 10th, after which he nominated President Lee as the next participant. President Lee then nominated Kim Chunsung, President of Chosun University, and Jeong Kimyeong, Mayor of Yeosu, as the next participants, emphasizing the significance of the campaign and the importance of joining the initiative.
President Lee stated, "The population issue is not a challenge limited to specific organizations or regions, but an important social task directly connected to all of our lives," and added, "Chonnam National University will actively take the lead in discussions and actions for a sustainable future together with the local community, especially regarding population issues deeply linked to the risk of regional extinction."
Meanwhile, the 'Population Issue Awareness Improvement Relay Campaign' is a nationwide public participation campaign organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health and Welfare. Key figures from various sectors are participating in a relay format to build social consensus and promote awareness improvement regarding population issues.
