The partnership between Kia and The Ocean Cleanup, which won the Sustainability Management of the Year category, was established in 2022. Over the past three years, they have jointly conducted marine plastic waste collection and recycling activities, leading sustainability management and creating social value.
In particular, since the partnership was formed in 2022, Kia emphasized that it has spared no essential support, including financial resources crucial to the project, enabling The Ocean Cleanup to collect over one million pounds (approximately 450,000 kg) of plastic waste from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Ryu Chang-seung, Head of Kia Customer Experience Division, stated, "Over the past three years, through our global partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, we have recorded an unprecedented amount of marine plastic collection," and added, "We will continue innovative efforts to provide solutions for a sustainable future, such as the attempt to apply recycled plastic from The Ocean Cleanup to automotive parts for the first time."
