Coldplay Returns After 8 Years, Drawing Over 310,000 Fans

A Grand Epic of Global Performances Unfolds in Goyang
The world-renowned band Coldplay's solo concert in Korea will kick off on the 16th at Goyang Sports Complex.
This concert marks their first visit to Korea in 8 years and is attracting global attention as a 'record-breaking tour' boasting the largest audience scale (over 310,000 attendees) and the most performances (6 shows) in the history of concerts in South Korea.
The hosting of this Coldplay concert is the result of Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan)'s long-term efforts to establish a 'global Hallyu content and performance hub city.' Based on systematic concert infrastructure development and expertise in managing international events, Goyang has now established itself as a world-class concert city where global artists choose to perform first, beyond just being a concert venue.
Last year, the city signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the concert organizer Live Nation Korea and has continued collaboration since. Improvements to the concert infrastructure at Goyang Sports Complex, such as noise reduction and expansion of spectator flow, facility enhancements, as well as administrative services optimized for large-scale concerts including traffic and safety management support, led to Goyang being selected as a key venue for Coldplay's world tour.
Coldplay chose Goyang for their second visit to Korea since their first in 2017, and this concert is expected to be a special stage that rekindles their long-standing relationship with Korean fans.
Coldplay's unique eco-friendly philosophy is also noteworthy. The 'MUSIC OF THE SPHERES WORLD TOUR' is a representative eco-friendly tour that incorporates renewable energy and carbon reduction technologies throughout stage operations. It includes solar and bicycle-powered stages, elimination of single-use plastics, sustainable merchandise, and concentrated efforts to realize ESG values. By implementing this in cooperation with Goyang City, it is setting a new paradigm for large-scale concerts in Korea.
Meanwhile, besides Coldplay's Korea concert, Goyang City is hosting a top-tier lineup in 2025 by consecutively attracting mega artists such as G-Dragon, BLACKPINK, Oasis, and Travis Scott.
Starting with Kanye West's listening party in August 2024, Goyang Sports Complex is expected to further solidify its status as a sacred ground for performances where K-POP and global music intersect.
Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, said, "This Coldplay concert in Korea is a symbolic achievement showing that Goyang City has become a stage trusted by world-class artists and the industry. Beyond attracting concerts, we will continue to expand Goyang City's brand value as a cultural and artistic city where citizens and fans worldwide can enjoy together, and as a global performance hub."
