Transformation of Gwanak-gu Children's Park Water Playground into a 'Generational Harmony Park'

Investing 2.7 Billion KRW to Renovate Eight Aging Children's Parks
Four New Water Playgrounds, Facility Upgrades Planned for the Remaining Four Parks

Transformation of Gwanak-gu Children's Park Water Playground into a 'Generational Harmony Park'

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is renovating aging children's parks and creating themed community parks that all generations, from children to seniors, can enjoy.

Last July, the district newly established the 'Gwanaksan Park Children's Water Playground' on the approximately 2,800㎡ site of the former Rose Garden near the Sillim Valley area of Gwanaksan Mountain.

Located a 10-minute walk from Gwanaksan Station, the water playground welcomed over 17,000 visitors last year. Especially, by linking with the nearby Sillim Valley water playground, children could enjoy safer water play, resulting in high satisfaction among family visitors.

Encouraged by the positive response to the children's water playground, the district secured a total of 2.7 billion KRW this year, including city budget, to renovate eight children's parks.

Among them, four children's parks?Saesup (539-14 Jowon-dong), Hapsil (1704-4 Samsung-dong), Bian (1530-14 Cheongnyong-dong), and Jungang (890-1 Jungang-dong)?will be transformed from simple and outdated play facilities into summer water playgrounds.

From December last year to February this year, detailed designs for the children's park renovations were carried out, and community briefings were held to build consensus with local residents and enhance project completeness.

Actively reflecting residents' opinions, the urban water playground, which secures various water play facilities such as combined play equipment and rest areas including pergolas and benches in idle spaces, is scheduled to open in July.

The district also plans to refurbish the remaining four children's parks?Inheon (196-240 Inheon-dong), Cheongnyong (1577-34 Cheongnyong-dong), Yaksu (1510-19 Nakseongdae-dong), and Nanu (652-160 Nangok-dong)?by replacing aging play equipment and floor paving and expanding rest facilities to create comfortable leisure spaces for residents.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, "The newly created water playground increases space efficiency by utilizing aging children's parks and expands safe play areas where children can run and play with peace of mind. We expect it to become a 'generation-friendly themed park' that offers daily relaxation to parents, seniors, and local residents."
