"'World Book and Copyright Day' Talk Concert, Contest, Lecture, and Participation Events... 'Please Love Books and Respect Copyrights'"

Copyright Protection Campaign to Be Held from April 17 to 30
in Celebration of World Book and Copyright Day on April 23

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in celebration of 'World Book and Copyright Day (April 23),' will hold a copyright protection campaign from the 17th to the 30th in collaboration with the Korea Copyright Commission and the Korea Copyright Protection Agency.

This event is organized to reflect on the precious value of copyright and to spread a culture that respects the rights of creators in everyday life.


During the campaign period, various online and offline events will be held, including a talk concert with famous authors, a contest to raise copyright awareness, and cultural events at the National Copyright Museum. On the 23rd, a copyright ambassador will be appointed.


For lectures, on the 23rd, author Lee Seul-ah will take the stage at the Seoul Library with the theme "Daily Lee Seul-ah and Copyright." Author Hansan-i will give a lecture at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, on the theme "The Future of Books and Copyright Protection in the Digital Age." On the 26th, a storytelling and book talk concert will be held at the National Copyright Museum in Jinju, Gyeongnam.


The contest to raise copyright awareness will run until June 15. Participants can submit poems or prose related to copyright protection through the website and Kakao Brunch Story. A total of 18 outstanding works will be selected and awarded the Prime Minister's Award, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Special Award, and the Korea Copyright Commission Chairman's Award in November.


Local communities and companies will also participate in the copyright campaign. In cooperation with the Korea Federation of Bookstores, 530 bookstores nationwide will distribute 100,000 paper bags bearing the message "A Heart That Loves Books, A Heart That Respects Copyright" from the 17th to the 30th. The National Copyright Museum will operate various experiential events and exhibitions under the theme "Secret Code A (Amazing) - B (Book) - C (Copyright) - D (Day)."


Online events include "Books Enjoyed and One-Line Reviews (4.17~23)," "National Participation Event for Copyright Protection (4.17~30)," "Introduce Your Life Book (4.17~30)," and "My Word on Copyright (4.24~30)."


Jung Hyang-mi, Director of the Copyright Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "This campaign is an important opportunity to spread a culture that loves books and respects copyright," adding, "We hope many citizens will reflect on the value of copyright and join in protecting it."
