The 'Global Local Governments Climate Assembly,' aimed at promoting climate action led by local governments and strengthening international solidarity, opened on the 15th.
Gyeonggi Province announced that, in collaboration with ICLEI, it will hold the Global Local Governments Climate Assembly over two days from the 15th to the 16th at KINTEX in Goyang, with more than 1,600 participants including local government officials from 82 cities across 29 countries, international organizations, and climate and energy experts.
The Global Local Governments Climate Assembly is the first large-scale international conference hosted by Gyeonggi Province since attracting the ICLEI Korea Secretariat (ICLEI ? Local Governments for Sustainability) to KINTEX.
It was planned to fully activate local government-level responses to the climate crisis and to strengthen the foundation for international cooperation. This assembly discusses solutions to create sustainable local communities under the theme "Science-based Green Transition for All."

The assembly proceeds with an opening ceremony on the 15th, followed by a keynote speech, plenary sessions, six concurrent sessions, and an RE100 city network performance. On the 16th, it continues with six concurrent sessions, a closing ceremony, the announcement of the Global Local Governments Joint Declaration, and a field visit to Janghang Wetlands.
The discussion topics for each session during the assembly are fivefold: ▲Science-based Solutions ▲Promotion of Citizen Participation ▲Climate Economy ▲Bridging Climate Gaps ▲Harmony with Nature. Each session is chaired by domestic and international local government leaders such as Niyaben Pedadiya (Mayor of Rajkot, India), Alix Desulme (Mayor of North Miami, Florida, USA), and Anna Reynolds (Mayor of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia), who presented environmental policies and climate action practices of local governments.
On the final day of the assembly, the 16th, a "Global Local Governments Joint Declaration" based on the five core themes will be adopted.
Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, explained, "'Gyeonggi RE100,' 'Climate Platform,' and 'Climate Insurance' are pioneering climate policies of Gyeonggi Province, representing a lifestyle-oriented climate crisis response model based on scientific data."
