On the 15th, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the '2025 World Local Government Climate Summit' held at KINTEX in Goyang City, sharing Nowon District's vision and policies as an international climate cooperation city.
The summit, co-hosted by ICLEI, Gyeonggi Province, and the Gyeonggi Industrial Promotion Agency, is themed "Regional Transition Contributing to Overcoming the Climate Crisis and Improving Quality of Life." Held from April 14 to 16, the event gathered about 500 participants including local governments from around the world, international organizations, and climate and energy experts to discuss cooperation measures for responding to the climate crisis and strategies for realizing sustainable cities.
Taking this summit as an opportunity, the district plans to officially join the '100% Renewable Energy City Network (RE100 City Network)' and the 'Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM),' expanding the scope of international cooperation and strengthening its role as a leading carbon-neutral city.
On the day, Mayor Oh Seung-rok participated in the RE100 highlight event, which promises to expand urban renewable energy, joining the 'RE100 Slogan Declaration' relay and signature performance, demonstrating a strong commitment to carbon neutrality to the world.
He then declared Nowon District's membership in GCoM during a special session of the ICLEI regular meeting and announced the 'Nowon-type Carbon Neutral Vision.' He shared representative carbon-neutral practices of Nowon District such as veranda solar power and Zero Energy Buildings (ZEB), emphasizing the importance of resident-participatory energy transition policies, which are key to the Nowon-type carbon neutrality.
Additionally, Mayor Oh held a meeting with Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, ICLEI President and Mayor of Malm?, who attended the Climate Summit, discussing policy cooperation measures for realizing carbon neutrality, including green building and urban design.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon District stated, "The climate crisis is a common challenge beyond borders," adding, "We will continue to engage with the international community and realize climate policies together with local residents."
