"I Will Carry on the Spirit of Park Chunghee"
Lee Cheolwoo, the Governor of North Gyeongsang Province and a candidate in the People Power Party's presidential primary, stated on the 15th, "I will build a world-class Korea by carrying on the spirit of Park Chunghee," and added, "If I am elected president, I will erect a statue of Park Chunghee in Gwanghwamun, Seoul."
Through Facebook on this day, Governor Lee said, "Let's make Korea a world-class nation by inheriting the spirit of President Park Chunghee," and added, "This morning, I visited the Park Chunghee Memorial Hall in Sangam-dong together with Minister Kim Moonsu."
Governor Lee stated, "When I announced my candidacy, I put forth the slogan 'A New Park Chunghee, Toward an Era of $100,000 Per Capita!' It was thanks to President Park Chunghee that our country became prosperous," and promised, "Just as he built the Gyeongbu Expressway and established POSCO to raise the nation, I, Lee Cheolwoo, will modernize the spirit of Park Chunghee and open the path for Korea's next 60 years."
Governor Lee also said, "If I become president, I will immediately erect a statue at the Park Chunghee Memorial Hall to properly honor his achievements, and if the people's hearts come together, I will build a statue in Gwanghwamun to commemorate the great leader who overcame 5,000 years of poverty," pledging, "'The New Park Chunghee,' Lee Cheolwoo, together with Minister Kim Moonsu, will once again lift up Korea."
