On the 15th, LG announced that it held the first 'Visiting AI Lab' of the year at Banseong Middle School located in Sabong-myeon, Jinju-si, Gyeongsangnam-do on the 8th.

The Visiting AI Lab is an educational program where 'LG Discovery Lab,' the nation's first experiential AI education institution located in Seoul and Busan, visits students who have difficulty accessing the institution directly.

At Banseong Middle School, LG conducted classes on Robot Intelligence and Visual Intelligence, the two most popular programs among the five operated by LG Discovery Lab, which include Robot Intelligence, Visual Intelligence, Language Intelligence, AI Human, and Data Intelligence. Students learned the principles of how robots draw maps autonomously and how AI judges by observing human facial expressions and movements. They also experienced robots autonomously navigating around obstacles and AI controlling robot movements through hand gestures.

To provide vivid AI education, LG devoted effort to designing the educational program and producing teaching aids. In particular, since bulky and fragile teaching materials had to be transported to schools in a single vehicle, they were modularized (assembled) to enhance mobility. For this purpose, researchers responsible for AI research at LG AI Research, LG Electronics, and LG CNS directly participated in the development and verification of educational program teaching aids and the advisory process for educational content.

So far, LG has been providing high-quality AI education free of charge to more than 33,000 youths annually through LG Discovery Lab. Starting with Banseong Middle School, the Visiting AI Lab plans to expand its operations this year to 12 middle schools located in the Gyeongnam, Chungnam, and Jeonnam regions.

In addition, since last year, LG has newly launched the educational social contribution project 'LG AI Youth Camp' in collaboration with Seoul National University. Selected youths participate in a 10-week team project every Saturday with mentors from Seoul National University to solve everyday problems using AI. Outstanding participants are given opportunities to attend educational programs held at UC Berkeley and Silicon Valley in the United States.
